General Santos City‘s top cooking school, Gerardo’s School of Culinary Arts has just invited us to the ground breaking ceremony of their new school building on May 26, 2012 at the NLSA Road in Barangay Lagao.
Gerardo’s has been conducting its classes at its small compound along Saging Street in downtown GenSan since 2003 when it started offering one-day recreational courses.
Eventually, it began conducting cake decorating classes and other similar courses when demand for such increased.
In the late 2007, the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) accredited their two (2) professional courses in cooking and baking paving the way for the acceptance of the first batch in the Certificate in Culinary Arts in January 2008.
The school currently handles classes of small batches with a chef-student ratio of 1:12. This is to ensure that Gerardo’s students receive quality hands-on laboratory training and learning from the two chef trainers, Chef Gerardo Arbis (CEO of Gerardo’s) and his wife Chef Faith.
The couple’s enrollees are mostly post-college level students, coming from diverse professional backgrounds, including hundreds of overseas contact workers. A good number of their graduates have managed to get hired in high-paying stints in hotels, restaurants, bakeshoppes and cruise ships abroad, among others. Some have moved on to become their own bosses, establishing their own dining/food establishments or bakeries.

The current school along Saging Street houses two(2) professional kitchens complete with all necessary tools and equipment to expose the students to life in an actual food establishment. It also has a big demo-lecture area and a receiving area for guests who wish to observe their classes.
Hopefully, at the new Lagao campus, Gerardo’s School of Culinary Arts will have bigger kitchens and working areas to accommodate more students from all over the country wishing to follow the steps of the school’s successful graduates of world-class calibre.
