Davao food Appreciation Tour (DFAT) 2012 – Day 1

Every year, bloggers from all over the Philippines look forward to the holding of the Davao Food Appreciation Tour (DFAT) where blogger participants from Luzon Visayas and Mindanao are treated to several days of great food from the best restaurants in Davao City and the nearby towns.

DFAT is the pioneer in holding food appreciation tour for bloggers. The event is organized by the Davao Bloggers and has been doing this for the last five years.

The event is very exclusive as only a few gets selected to join the tour. Usually, only 15 participants are invited. Five from Luzon, Five from Visayas, and Five from Mindanao join DFAT.

Last year (2011) I got shortlisted, but at the very last minute I had to backout. Luckily, the organizers considered me for this year’s edition of DFAT. Yey! I am not sure how many of us joined the DFAT 2012 batch.

DFAT 2012 was held May 4-7. I flew to Davao from Iloilo via AirPhil Express.

May 4th – It is the First Day of DFAT 2012, and I am really excited to meet the other participants, most of them I’ll be meeting for the first time.

Our first restaurant stop for the day is Lunch at Ranchero’s at the second level of Abreeza Mall.

Rachero’s served us an array of Filipino dishes. For lunch we had Pansit Guisado Sotanghon, Kakanin Trio (Tibok-Tibok, Sticky Rice with Mango and Suman sa Lihiya at Latik), Fried Lumpia and Fresh Lumpia.

Their version of Tibok tibok is really good. It’s sooooooo creamy!

From Abreeza, we then proceeded to the Green Windows Dormitel to check in. Later in the afternoon, we then headed towards The Davao Crocodile Park. This is my second time to visit the park. My first time was Last June when AirPhil Express sent us to Davao for a Fam Tour.

The Crocodile Park is always a fun place for me! When we visited the park, we saw the baby tiger, a Burmese Python, an albino python and a baby crocodile was on display for photo ops. Of course I also had some photo op moments here. Hindi pwedeng hindi! yun lang, I had to rely on the other bloggers camera, as my camera batter was unintentionally left in Bacolod at that time. So I had no photos of my own for this whole series

From the crocodile park, we then moved to Tribu K’Mindanawan for the spectacular fire dance. Again, it’s not my first time to witness the group’s performance, but I am still amazed. I love how they play with fire, literally. It’s breathtaking.

And to cap our Day1, we had our dinner at Lachi’s. Lachi’s is not new to me. Been here several times, and I always love the food here. The last time I wen to Lachi’s was during Kadayawan 2010, I think. And I am surprised to see that their space now has doubled! They got the store space next to them, so more patrons can be accommodated during lunch and dinner time. Hurray!

There were a lot of foods served. I just lost count. But the one that really caught my fancy is their version of Laing.

I am not a big fan of laing. But guess what, I finished all the laing served in our table! Kaloka lang!

And if you are in Lachi’s you never end your meal without dessert. And the owners of Lachi filled an entire table with desserts! OMG!

There were durian cheesecake, French Macarons, blueberry cheesecake, Sans Rival and a whole lot more! It was a treat for all the sweet tooth!

And yes, take note, we are just starting. We still have 3 days more for the DFAT!

Zamboanga, I’m Back. But…

It took me almost six years to return to the southern city of Zamboanga. So I was soooo excited when I finally booked a ticket bound for Zamboanga City.

Although my last visit to the Asia’s Latin City was way back in 2006, What I did during those times, where I ate, the places I visite are still clear in my mind.

And I just cant wait to go back and re trace the things that I did before, and probably do more this time.
